Mark 4

Passage: The Parable of the Sower, A Lamp on a Stand, The Parable of the Growing Seed, The Parable of the Mustard Seed, Jesus Calms the Storm

Memory Verse: "Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me" -Psalm 86:6-7

Notes: -(v.1-8) Jesus began to preach the parable of the sower:
1st Seed: Fell along the path, which were eaten by the birds
Seeds: people who hears the word, but the word is taken away by Satan as soon as it is sown
2nd Seed: Fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, but were scorched and withered because the soil was shallow and the seeds had no root
Seeds: People who hear the word and receive it with joy, but last only a short time because it has no root. It falls away when persecution comes
3rd Seed: Fell among thorns, which choked the plants. It could not bear grain
Seeds: People who hear the word, but is suffocated by the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things, making the seed unfruitful
4th Seed: Fell on good soil, which grew and produced a crop
Seeds: Those who hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop--thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times what was sown.
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear"
-(v.21-25) "whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open."
You put a lamp on its stand, not under a bowl or a bed.
"With the measure you use, it will be measured to you--and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he was will be taken from him"
-(v.26-29) The kingdom of God is like a growing seed, which sprouts and grows, and produced grain all by itself
-(v.30-34) The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants
-(v.35-41) When Jesus and his disciples were in a boat, a furious squall came up, but Jesus was sleeping. His disciples woke him and said, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" Jesus rebuked the wind and waves, and asked why his disciples why they were afraid.
"Do you still have no faith?"
