Acts 27, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #66: CLEANING THE HOUSE

PASSAGE: Paul Sails for Rome, The Storm, The Shipwreck

NOTES: (v.1-12) Paul and other prisoners were handed to a centurion named Julius. In his kindness, he allowed Paul to go to his friends so that they may provide for his needs. They had difficulty arriving off Cnidus and came to a place called Fair Havens. Sailing had become dangerous, and so Paul warned that the voyage is going to be disastrous. But the centurion did not listen to Paul and decided to sail on, hoping to reach Phoenix and winter there.
-(v.13-26) A south wind began to blow, and it eventually turned into a violent storm. The ship was caught in the storm and  the men began to throw cargo overboard. Neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and the people gave up all hope of being saved. But Paul said that not one of them will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. "Last night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me and said, 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.'"
-(v.27-44) On the 14th night, they found that the water's depth was decreasing. They feared that the boat would crash against the rocks, and began throwing down anchors. The sailors let the lifeboat down in an attempt to escape, but Paul said that they would not be saved if the soldiers didn't stay with the ship. Paul then urged the men to eat food, and they were comforted. There were 276 men on board total. When daylight came, they saw a bay with a sandy beach, and began to cut the anchors. But the ship struck a sandbar so that the stern was broken, and so the soldiers wanted to kill the prisoners to prevent escape. But the centurion wanted to spare Paul's life and prevented them from carrying out their plan. Those who could swim were to jump overboard, and the rest were to get on planks to reach land safely.

ACT OF LOVE: Today I was home alone for a long time, and so I spent some time cleaning random parts of the house since my parents weren't home. (I cleaned my parent's room, the yard, the kitchen, my room, etc).

Acts 26, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #65: CARRYING BAGS

PASSAGE: Paul Before Agrippa

NOTES: (v.1-32) King Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp to see Paul, and Paul began to testify. He told Agrippa about how he once was a Pharisee and persecuted those who followed Jesus until God came to him in a vision that blinded him for three days.  After he was healed, he began to preach God's truth and repentance. Festus interrupted Paul and said that he was insane, but Paul asked, "King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do" At this, Agrippa asked Paul if he really believed that he could persuade him to be a Christian in such a short time, and Paul said that he prayed that they all become what he is, except for the chains. The king then talked with those sitting with him and concluded that Paul didn't do anything that deserved death.

ACT OF LOVE: Today I walked with my mom to downtown Santa Barbara after lunch from my sister's apartment. We walked around the plaza and the main street, but after a while it got sort of tiring. My act of love was carrying my mom's purse and our shopping bags on our way home so that the wouldn't be as tired!
Here is baby Josiah at 1 day old! ISN'T HE THE CUTEST BABY ON THE PLANET I CAN HARDLY BEAR IT

Acts 25, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #64: SB LOVE

PASSAGE: The Trial Before Festus, Festus Consults King Agrippa

NOTES: (v.1-12) The Jews brought Paul to Festus and accused him of many serious charges, but Paul defended himself by saying that none of the charges were true. Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, asked if Paul was willing to go to Jerusalem and stand trial. Paul appealed to Caesar, and Festus agreed
-(v.13-22) Festus tells King Agrippa about all that has happened with Paul, and Agrippa says that he wants to hear Paul.

ACT OF LOVE: Today I went with my family to Santa Barbara to visit my sister and her newborn! The hospital policy is that there can only be two people in the room at a time, so the others had to wait in the patio. We came about the same time as two of my sister's friends, but my parents went in first (I was supposed to go after them). When they came out, I let the two people go ahead of me so that they didn't have to wait to see the baby. (Note: This however, was suggested by my mom, so she helped me with this act of love)
By the way, my nephew is ADORABLE :)

Acts 24, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #63: MAKING CALLS

PASSAGE: The Trial Before Felix

MEMORY VERSE“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.”- Leviticus 19:18

NOTES: (v.1-27) Paul was taken before Felix, and the elders accused Paul of stirring up riots and being the ringleader of the Nazarene sect. But Paul replied that they have found no evidence of him arguing or creating disturbances, but he will admit that he worships God of our fathers and believes everything that agrees with the Law and that is written with the prophets. Felix said that he will decide his case when the commander comes.
A few days later, Felix sent for Paul and listened to him speak about Christ Jesus. But when he began talking about self-control and judgement, Felix was afraid and told him to go away. He was succeeded by Porcius Festus after two years. Paul was left in prison because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I helped my mom make some calls to the Animal Hospital/Pet Hotel for Bambi since we'll be gone for the weekend, and I did them without having her remind me.

This is completely unrelated, BUT my sister just gave birth today at noon! Can't wait to meet him!! :) He's a 9lb 4oz wonder! OH BABY <3

Acts 23, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #62: TWO MONTH MARK!

PASSAGE: Before the Sanhedrin, The Plot to Kill Paul, Paul Transferred to Caesarea

MEMORY VERSE: “Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?" declares the LORD. "Do not I fill heaven and earth?" declares the LORD.”- Jeremiah 23:24

NOTES: (v.1-11) Paul was taken before the commander and chief priests, and he spoke against the Sanhedrin, saying that they themselves violate the law by commanding they he be struck. He also said, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead." At this, a great dispute broke out between the Pharisees, and there was a great uproar. But the following night the Lord told Paul, "Take courage! As you have testified about my in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome."
-(v.12-22) The Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. When Paul heard of this, he told it to the commander.
-(v.23-35) Paul was transferred to Caesarea with a letter from the commander. When the governor read the letter and learned that he was from Cilicia, he ordered that Paul be kept under guard at the palace.

ACT OF LOVE: Today is the two month mark of my 365 days of love! Yes, that's right--it was two months ago on April 24, 2010 that I began this entire love life challenge. So WHAT in the world did I do??
For CSF, our last event was the middle school (Bert Lynn/Jefferson) graduations after school, but I wasn't the one chairing it. However, I got a call an hour before the event from the other board members telling me that they couldn't make it to the first shift, and asked if I could please chair the first half for them? My first instinct was reluctance, as I had no ride (my parents were gone), and I still needed to finish up some stuff before the Redondo graduation. But seeing that this was the perfect opportunity to show love, I agreed!
Also, I went to support my friends at the Redondo graduation with flowers/leis (although I wanted to do this and it was fun for me). I had never gone to a Redondo graduation before!

Acts 22, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #61: GRAD FUN

PASSAGE: Paul Speaks to the Crowd, Paul the Roman Citizen

NOTES: (v.1-29) With permission from the commander, Paul began speaking to the people in Aramaic, and they became quiet. He told his testimony of how he used to persecute Christians until God blinded him, and used Ananias to restore his sight. He told the people what the Lord had said to him, but when the people heard of this they rejected him and raised their voices. Paul was taken into the barracks, and was about to be flogged when Paul said, "Is it legal for you to flog a Roman citizen who hasn't even been found guilty?" When they realized that he was born a Roman citizen, they withdrew immediately and were alarmed that they had a Roman citizen in chains.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I came 2 hours early to help out with Graduation stuff. We mostly just stood in the parking lot for most of the time directing traffic so that people knew where to park. After, I got to attend graduation and see all the seniors becomes graduates! Congrats, class of 2010! :)

Acts 21, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #60: PAPER

PASSAGE: On to Jerusalem, Paul's Arrival at Jerusalem, Paul Arrested, Paul Speaks to the Crowd

NOTES: (v.1-16) Paul went to Tyre, where he met the disciples, and then went to Ptolemais. There, Paul was urged to not go to Jerusalem because of what prophet Agabus said, but Paul asnwered, "I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."
-(v.17-26) Paul was received warmly in Jerusalem, and he met with James and the rest of the elders. When they heard of what God had done among the Gentiles, they praised God and told Paul to purify the four men. "then everybody will know there is no truth in these reports about you, but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law."
-(v.27-36) Some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple, and a whole crowd seized him and took him outside the city gates and tried to kill him. They stopped when the officers and soldiers came, but Paul was arrested and taken into the barracks (although they could not get the truth out, as some were accusing Paul of one thing while others another thing).

ACT OF LOVE: Today, every time someone in my classes asked, "Does anyone have paper?" I gave them a sheet of mine! I purposefully looked for people in need of paper, lol.

Acts 20, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #59: CLEANUP FUN

PASSAGE: Through Macedonia and Greece, Eutychus Raised From the Dead at Troas, Paul's Farewell to the Ephesian Elders

MEMORY VERSE: "However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace" Acts 20:24

NOTES: (v.1-12) Paul went through macedonia and arrived in Greece, speaking many words of encouragement. Since the Jews were plotted against him, he went back through Macedonia to Syria. On the first day of the week, Paul was preaching and spoke until midnight, as he had to leave the next day. A man named Eutychus, who was seated next to a window, fell asleep and fell from the third story and was picked up dead. Paul, however, put his arms around him and told the people that he is alive Then he went upstairs and broke bread and ate. They people took the man home alive, and were greatly comforted.
-(v.13-38) Paul was in a hurry to Jerusalem, and spoke to the church of Ephesus: "And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me." He warns the people of future hardships, and prayed with them.
"It is more blessed to give than to receive."
"What greived them the most was his statement that they would never see his face again."

ACT OF LOVE: Today in art class, I noticed some miscellaneous pieces of trash on the floor while we were getting ready to leave. I decided to pick it up even though it wasn't really mine haha. The end! :)

Acts 19, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #58: FATHER'S DAY LOVE

PASSAGE: Paul in Ephesus, The Riot in Ephesus

MEMORY VERSE: "'My food,' said Jesus, 'is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.'" John 4:34

NOTES: (v.1-22) Paul went to Ephesus and told the people about the Holy Spirit, and then baptized them in the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. Paul spoke boldly in the synagogue about the kingdom of God, but some refused to believe, and so Paul left them. The word of God was preached to the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia. God did extraordinary miracles through Paul so that even clothing items could heal the sick.
Some Jews tried driving out evil spirits in the name of Jesus, but one day, an evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" Then the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them so that they ran out naked and bleeding.
When word spread of this, the name of Jesus was held high in honor. Many confessed their deeds, and many of those who practiced sorcery burned their scrolls publicly.
-(v.23-41) Demetrius, a silversmith, called together the workmen and told them that Paul was destroying their business by saying that man-made gods are no gods at all. They became furious and the whole city was in an uproar. They seized Paul's traveling companions from Macedonia, and Paul wanted to go to the crowd but the disciples would not let him. The assembly was in confusion, as most didnt even know why they were there. Finally, the city clerk quieted the crowd and dismissed the assembly.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I woke up extra early in the morning to make chocolate chunk pancakes for my dad in honor of Father's day. It didn't go exactly as well as I planned, but they turned out decent! (I think). And then I went with my family to Monterey park for a delicious lunch.
Also, I took care of Bambi's necessities when my parents were busy.

Psalm 51, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #57: BACC AND SUNFLOWERS

MEMORY VERSE: "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 51:10

NOTES: "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. 2Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin." (v.1-2)
"Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge." (v.4)
"You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it' you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise" (v.16-17)
This is a Psalm of true repentance (it was written by David after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba).
I think God was reminding me that it is through humbling myself and seeing my sin and repenting that I can see who I am in Him, and how powerful and merciful He is. I thought of a period I went through earlier this year that involved a lot of repenting and grief because of my sins, and through which God has restored and renewed me with His grace. Though it was a pretty painful time period for me, I gained a newer understanding of my identity in Him--that I really do have "nothing but Christ to boast in" (as stated by a friend). And, in turn, I begin to see more and more of who God with His amaaazing grace and eternal love! He truly is a love greater than life itself :)

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I sacrificed my morning by waking up and going to help out at the Baccalaureate reception at West. We ended up working there from 9am-1pm (since a lot of people didn't show up). We set up the food and decorations, prepared the punch, served the food, and cleaned up afterwards. They let us take home some sunflowers that were part of the centerpieces, so I took a few home to my mom. As I was walking home, I saw a nice old lady and smiled at her. She smiled back and said that the flowers I were holding were reallyy pretty, so I asked if she wanted one. She brightened up and said, "I would love one! Thank you so much!" (My mom also liked the flowers when I brought them home). Sunflowers make people happy! :)

Acts 18, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #56: ENCOURAGEMENT

PASSAGE: In Corinth, Priscilla, Aquila, and Apollos

MEMORY VERSE: review

NOTES: (v.1-17) Paul went to Corinth and preached to the Jews, but began preaching to the Gentiles after they opposed him. One night, the Lord said to Paul in a vision, "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city." The Jews attacked Paul and brought him to court, but the proconsul told him that they should settle the matter themselves, and so they were ejected from the court.
-(v.18-28) Paul then went to Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. After they went to Ephesus, and left for Antioch. A Jew named Apollos, who had thorough knowledge of Scriptures, began to speak boldly in the synagogue. Priscilla and Aquila invited him into their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. He went to Achaia, where he vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, my act of love was encouraging various people in different ways. Some were more small, on-the-surface encouragements (asking about people's day, talking to people who seemed outcast), while others went more in depth. All in all, it was a very encouraging day! I was also encouraged ALOT in turn! What a great cycle =)

Acts 17, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #55: LOVE AT HOME

PASSAGE: In Thessalonica, In Berea, In Athens

MEMORY VERSE: "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else." Acts 17:24-25

NOTES: (v.1-9) Paul went to Thessalonica, where he preached the gospel and many joined Paul and Silas. But the Jews were jealous, and so they formed a mob and rushed to Jason's house, searching for Paul and Silas. When they couldn't find them, they dragged Jason out and made Jason post bond. (?)
-(v.10-15) Paul and Silas went to Berea, where they preached the gospel. When the Jews found out that Paul was preaching in Berea, they went there and stirred up a crowd against them. Paul went to the coast, but Silas and Timothy stayed.
-(v.16-34) Paul went to Athens and was distressed to see the city filled with idols (there was even an altar for an "unknown god"!). When he preached, they thought he was advocating foreign gods. But Paul told them of the gospel and how God is not like "gold or silver or stone--an image made by man's design and skill," and will one day judge the world with justice. At this, some sneered, but others became followers and beleived.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, my dad came back after quite a few months in China! I chatted with him for a bit, and updated him on my life. Also, I voluntarily cleaned up dog poopoo after dinner, haha.

Acts 16, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #54: HELPING WITH DINNER

PASSAGE: Timothy Joins Paul and Silas, Paul's Vision of the Man of Macedonia, Lydia's Conversion in Philippi, Paul and Silas in Prison

MEMORY VERSE: "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid." Proverbs 12:1

NOTES: (v.1-10) Paul met Timothy, a disciple, and brought him along on the journey. He was circumcised (his father was a Greek) and they traveled from town to town, and the churches were strengthened in faith and grew daily in numbers. They traveled to the border of Mysia, but the Holy Spirit would not let them in. At night, Paul had a vision of a ma in Macedonia begging them to come help them, and so they immediately got ready to leave for Macedonia.
-(v.11-15) A woman named Lydia, who worshipped God, heard Paul's message and was moved by the Lord to respond. After she and her family were baptized, she invited them into her home.
-(v.16-40) Paul and Timothy met a slave girl on the way to the place of prayer, who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money by fortune telling. She followed Paul and the rest of them, shouting incessantly until Paul drove the spirit out of her. When the owners realized that they could no longer make money off of her, they seized Paul and Silas, and they were beaten and thrown into prison.
At midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God (and the other prisoners were listening) when a great earthquake shook loose everybody's chains. The jailer saw that the prison doors had been opened, and almost committed suicide for he thought that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul stopped him, and the jailer fell trembling, asking him what he must do to be saved. That night, the jailer and his family were baptized. The next day, they were released. When the officers found out that Paul and the people were Roman citizens, they appeased them and escorted them out of the prison.
WAHH so cool. Imagine if Paul had never gone to prison--that jailer may never have been saved! How amazing is it that God can use any situation for HIS KINGDOM.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, my mom was feeling sick and tired, so I helped a bit with dinner by watching the stove and washing the dishes after! [Keep in mind that I am a terrible cook, and once burned a whole pot of pork rinds :( ]

Acts 15, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #53: TIME WITH A FRIEND

PASSAGE: The Council and Jerusalem, The Council's Letter to Gentile Believers, Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas

MEMORY VERSE: "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:7

NOTES: (v.1-21) Some men from Judea went to Antioch and taught people that one must be circumcised in order to be saved. This brought Paul and Barnabas into a sharp dispute, as they preached that one is only saved by the grace of God. "No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are." The whole assembly became silent as they listened to the signs and wonders God had done.
James: "It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood."
-(v.22-35) The apostles and elders wrote a letter to the Gentile believers, and they were encouraged by its message. Judas and Silas, who was sent with the letter, soon returned. But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, preaching the word of God.
-(v.36-41) Paul told Barnabas that they should go back and visit, and Barnabas wanted to take John (also called Mark). But Paul disagreed, because he had deserted them and discontinued work with them. Because of this, they had such a sharp disagreement that they parted ways and Barnabas took Mark, while Paul chose Silas.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I got to spend some wonderful time with my friend, Cynthia Kono, before she leaves for her missions trip to Kyoto! She picked me up from school and we went to Habit burger. We each got a charburger and shared some delicious onion rings! We spent around 2 hours just talking about Jesus, our walks with Him, and things that we've encountered. It was truly a great time of fellowship between the two of us, as we both were very encouraged by each other's testimonies and stories about Jesus. Afterwards, we spent some time  sharing prayer requests and praying for each other! I'm super excited to see how God will work in Cynthia and myself these upcoming months. Please pray for her & her project to Japan! :)
Also, she was nice enough to pay for both of us and give me a ride. Very grateful :)

Acts 14, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #52: DONATING TO DRAMA

PASSAGE: In Iconium, In Lystra and Derbe, The Return to Antioch in Syria

MEMORY VERSE: "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain" 1 Corinthains 15:58

NOTES: (v.1-7) Paul and Barnabas went to Iconium and spoke boldly in the name of the Lord so that a great number believed. But those who did not believe poisoned their minds against the brothers so that the city was divided. There was a plot to stone them, but they found out about it and fled.
-(v.8-20) A crippled man in Lystra listened intently to Paul as he spoke, and Paul saw that he had the faith to be healed. So Paul told the man to stand up on his feet, and he immediately jumped up and began to walk. At this, the people tried to worship Paul and Barnabas as gods, but the brothers tore their clothes at this and gave glory to God. Even so, they had difficulty preventing the crowd from sacrificing to them. Then, some Jews from Antioch came and stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. But he got up and went back into the city and left for Derbe.
-(v.21-28) In Derbe, they preached the good news and won a large number of disciples. They returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, encouraging them to remain true to the Lord.
"We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God."

ACT OF LOVE: Today was the Play Production showcase, which was "pay what you can" (minimum like $1). Since I'm part of the Drama department, my teacher said that we didn't have to pay to get in. However, I know that the Drama department depends on funds such as these, since the district doesn't really give us money. So I decided to donate! :)

Acts 13, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #51: WASHING DISHES

PASSAGE: Barnabas and Saul Sent Off, On Cyprus, In Pisidian Antioch

MEMORY VERSE: review

NOTES: (v.1-12) The Holy Spirit set Saul and Barnabas apart for the work to which He has called them, so they fasted and prayed and sent them off. They went to Cyprus and met a man who was a false prophet and sorcerer who was an attendant of the proconsul. The proconsul wanted to hear the word of God, but the sorcerer opposed them. Saul was filled with the Holy Spirit and rebuked him and said, "Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of sun." Immediately darkness came over him and the man became blind. The proconsul saw what had happened and believed.
-(v.13-52) Paul preached the gospel of Jesus and the resurrection to the people, and they invited him and Barnabas to speak further on the next Sabbath. But many of the Jews were jealous and talked abusively against Paul. So Paul and Barnabas answered the Jews, "Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles." The Gentiles were glad and honored the word of God, and all who were appointed believed. The word of God spread through the whole region, but the Jews tried to persecute them.

ACT OF LOVE: Today was simple. I washed the dishes lovingly and ungrudgingly when I was asked to!

Acts 12, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #50: CARWASH!

PASSAGE: Peter's Miraculous Escape From Prison, Herod's Death

MEMORY VERSE: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" Jeremiah 29:11

NOTES: (v.1-19) Herod was persecuting Christians, and saw that this pleased the Jews, so he seized Peter. Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. The night before his trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with chains, with two sentries guarding the entrance. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord came and told Peter to get up. The angel released the chains from Peter, and told him to put on his clothes and to wrap a cloak around and follow him. They passed the two guards, and the iron gate that lead into the city opened by itself. Peter realized that the Lord had sent an angel to deliver him from prison, and then went to Mary's house, where they were praying. A servant girl recognized his voice and told the others, but they did not believe her. Finally, they opened the door and were astonished to see him. He told them all that had happened, and told them to tell James and the brothers. He then left for another place. In the morning, Herod made a thorough search but could not find him, so he ordered that his guards be executed.
-(v.20-25) Herod went to Caesarea. On the appointed day, Herod, wearing his royal robes, delivered a public address. He claimed that he had the voice of a god, not of a man. Because he did not praise God, an angel of the Lord struck him down and he was eaten by words and died.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I had loads of free time. So what did I do? I WASHED A CAR, OF COURSE.
Actually, I had noticed that my mom's white car was getting pretty dirty and poopy (literally), so I offered to wash it! Her face brightened immediately when I asked her, because she LOVES cleanliness. In the end, the car looked ALOT better :) Especially after all the bird poop had been scrubbed off. Cleanliness is next to godliness! <3

Acts 11, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #49: MEET NEW PEOPLE (P3?)

PASSAGE: Peter Explains His Actions, The Church in Antioch

MEMORY VERSE: "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9

NOTES: (v.1-18) The apostles had heard that the Gentiles had received the word of God, and so the believers criticized Peter, saying "You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them." But Peter told them all that had happened, including his vision, and the baptism of the people in the Holy Spirit. At this, they did not object anymore and praised God.
-(v.19-30) Barnabas was sent to antioch, and sa evidence of the grace of God. He then went to Tarsus for Saul, and brought him back to Antioch. For a year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught a great number of people. Agabus, a prophet from Jerusalem, predicted that a sever famine would spread over the entire Roman world.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I let my friend, Danica HU,  take shotgun when I already called it as my act love. lol JUST KIDDING!

There were two new people in our fellowship today--Albert and Kevin. My act of love was trying to get a good conversation with them going for a good amount of time to welcome them and make them feel more comfortable in the fellowship. Kevin is an incoming sophomore at PV High, who used to go to the same middle school I went to! And Albert is an incoming junior at Penn who is Taiwanese! It was really fun getting to know these people--I love meeting people! :)

Acts 10, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #48: BEING A PATIENT PATIENT

PASSAGE: Cornelius Calls for Peter, Peter's Vision, Peter at Cornelius's House

MEMORY VERSE: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." Ephesians 6:1

NOTES: (v.1-8) A man named Cornelius was a centurion and a God-fearing man who gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly. One day, he saw an angel of God who told him to send men to Joppa to bring back Simon Peter. At this, Cornelius sent two servants and a devout soldier and told them all that had happened.
-(v.9-23) Peter went up on the roof to pray, and fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and a large sheet being let down by its four corners. It contained all kinds of animals, and a voice told him to "Kill and eat." Peter refused, for he never ate anything unclean. But the voice said, "Do not call anything impure that God had made clean." This happened three times, and the sheet was taken back to heaven. Then, the men that Cornelius sent arrived at Peter's house. When Peter heard what they told him, he invited them into the house as guests.
-(v.24-48) Peter arrived at Cornelius' house and Cornelius told him the vision that he received. Peter then said, "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism, but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right." He began to preach about the gospel and the resurrection. The Holy Spirit came upon all who heard the message, and they began speaking in tongues and praising God. Peter then ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I had an eye appointment at the Costco optometry. My appointment was at 3:20. When did I actually get to see the doctor? 4:30. 4:30!! Apparently the optometrist had arrived an hour late, which messed up the schedule for the entire day. All the other patients were visibly upset, and voiced their complaints to the secretaries/doctor. Though it was easy to join them and become annoyed, I decided to hold my tongue and to give mercy to the employees. My act of love today was practicing patience and love to the secretaries and doctors by keeping a good attitude and smiling at them when they finally got to me. Plus, I felt sort of bad for the secretaries, since it wasn't really their fault but they still got yelled at =\

Acts 9, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #47: CHORES

PASSAGE: Saul's Conversion, Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem, Aeneas and Dorcas

MEMORY VERSE: "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" Psalm 139:23-24
[This is one of my favorite verses, and I just wanted to review it!]

NOTES: (v.1-19) Saul was persecuting followers of Jesus an was on the road to Damascus when a light from heaven flashed around him, and he heard a voice saying, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"
When Saul asked who the voice was, he replied, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do."
Saul got up, and was blind for three days and did not eat or drink anything. In Damascus, the Lord called to Ananias in a vision and told him to go to Saul and restore his sight. At first, Ananias was hesitant because he know about how Saul persecuted the Christians, but he eventually obeyed the Lord. Ananias went to Saul and placed his hands on Saul and restored his sight.
-(v.20-31) Saul began to preach about Jesus and the resurrection, but the Jews plotted to kill him. Saul learned of their plan and went to Jerusalem. Initially, the disciples feared him and did not believe he was a true disciple, but Barnabas took him in and brought him to the apostles. Saul stayed with the apostles and preached boldly and fearlessly in the name of the Lord.
-(v.32-43) Peter healed a paralytic named Aeneas--those around him saw and turned to the Lord.
Peter also raised a woman named Dorcas, who always did good and helped the poor, from the dead. This became known all over the region and many people believed in the Lord.

ACT OF LOVE: I had art class today, and as I was putting away my supplies I saw that all the paint-brush holders were knocked over and really disorganized. I set them all upright and organized it so that it wasn't so messy!
ALSO..I was going up to shower, when I realized that Bambi probably had to pee. So I took him out and cleaned him. When I was going back in I realized that the trash hadn't been emptied in a while. So I emptied all the trash in the house and replaced it with new bags.
My act of love today was willingly doing small chores without being asked to or receiving acknowledgement!

Acts 8, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #46: OFFERING SCHOOL SUPPLIES

PASSAGE: The Church Persecuted and Scattered, Philip in Samaria, Simon the Sorcerer, Philip and the Ethiopian

NOTES: (v.1-8) Persecution began against the church at Jerusalem, and all were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Saul began to destroy the church, imprisoning men and women. "Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went" When the crowds saw the miraculous sings that they did, they listened to what they said and there was great joy.
-(v.9-25) a man named Simon had practiced sorcery and amazed all the people of Samaria, and had many followers. But the people believed Philip as he preached the kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ, and so Simon himself believed and was baptized. The apostles sent Peter and John to Samaria and placed their hands on them so that they may receive the Holy Spirit. When Simon saw this, he tried to offer them money in return for the ability to give people the Holy Spirit. But Peter answered, "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!...Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord."
-(v.26-40) The Lord told Philip to go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. There was an Ethiopian eunuch who began to read the book of Isaiah, and Philip was prompted by the Spirit to go to the chariot. When he heard the eunuch reading, and realized that he did not understand what he was reading, Philip began to tell him the good new of Jesus and baptized the eunuch.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, in English, I overheard my friend asking another friend if she had a clear, plastic binding for a history project. I realized that yesterday, I had just bought a 5-pack of these at Office Depot for MY history project, but I only needed one. I piped up and offered to give him one of mine, since I didn't need that many.

Acts 7, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #45: SPECIFIC PRAYER

PASSAGE: Stephen's Speech to the Sanhedrin, The Stoning of Stephen

MEMORY VERSE: "Then he said to them, 'Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's'" -Matthew 22:21

NOTES: (v.1-54) The high priests asked Stephen of the charges that were pressed against him, and Stephen began to preach about Abraham. He spoke about how God promised Abraham a son, Isaac, who was the father of Jacob, who became the father of twelve patriarchs. The twelve patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, so they sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him and rescued him so that he was made ruler all over Egypt. When the famine struck, his brothers came to him for food and Joseph revealed who he was, and they were reconciled. Then God fulfilled his promised to Abraham when the number of Egyptian people increased greatly. Moses was born, and he was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful. However, when he was 40, he killed an Egyptian and was caught by other people. So he fled to Midian for 40 years, until God came to him to send back to Egypt. He became their ruler and deliverer, but he was refused by the Egyptians.
"Our forefathers had the tabernacle of the Testimony with them in the desert. It had been made as God directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen."
"You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy spirit!...you who have received the law that was put into the effect through angels but have not obeyed it."
-(v.55-60) At this, they people became furious and gnashed their teeth at him. Stephen, who was full of the Holy Spirit, looked up and saw the glory of God and said, "Look, I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." They then dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.
When they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Lord, do not hold this sin against them."

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I decided to specifically pray for people during my prayer time. I reviewed some of the past requests from people that I wrote down in my prayer journal, and decided to spend some extra time praying again for these people. A lot of people in my prayer journal are people I don't normally talk to very frequently, so I used tonight to bless them in prayer!

Acts 6, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #44: BEING AWKWARD IN THE NAME OF LOVE

PASSAGE: The Choosing of the Seven, Stephen Seized

MEMORY VERSE: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1

NOTES: (v.1-7) The number of disciples was increasing, and so the Grecian Jews complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked. So the Twelve disciples decided to choose seven men who are full of the Spirit and wisdom. They chose Stephan, Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas.
-(v.8-15) Stephan was a man of God's grace and power, who did many great wonders and miraculous signs. Members from the Synagogue of the Freedmen opposed Stephen, but could not stand up against his wisdom. So they secretly plotted to falsely accuse him of blasphemy with false witnesses. But when the people were sitting in the Sanhedrin and looked at Stephen, they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I went with my mom to Rite-Aid to buy some pregnancy-related stuff for my sister, who is just DAYS away from giving birth!! My mom's friend had told her about something that helped her alot while she was nursing, and so my mom wanted to buy it for my sister. Unfortunately, the friend did not know what the product was called, and could only describe it by how she used it. When we got to Rite-Aid, my mom really, really, wanted me to go up to the cashier and ask about the product by describing it. The thing is, it's pretty awkward to describe (especially to strangers), and so I was hesitant. However, as my mom really wanted me to ask, I sacrificed some pride and asked the pharmacist. It turns out that they've never heard of it before and we ended up not buying anything haha. But at least my mom's satisfied!
BTW, I'm SO EXCITED for the arrival of my baby nephew, Josiah Kellams! It's predicted that my sister will give birth within 10 days!!! OH BABY. I wish I could be there!

Acts 5, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #43: LOVING MY PARENTS

PASSAGE: Ananias and Sapphira, The Apostles Heal Many, The Apostles Persecuted

NOTES: (v.1-11) Ananias, whose wife was Sapphira, had sold a piece of property and kept part of the money while donating the rest (with his wife's full knowledge). Then Peter asked him how he would do such a thing. "You have not lied to men but to God." At this, Ananias fell down and died.
Later, his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her if the money was the full price that they got for the land. When she agreed, Peter rebuked her and said "How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also." She then fell down and died, just as her husband had.
-(v.12-41) The apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders, and more and more people believed in the Lord. However, the high priests became jealous of the apostles and arrested them and put them in jail. But an angel of the Lord opened the jail gates and brought them out, commanding them to go and preach in the temple courts. At this, they brought the apostles back and questioned him. But Peter and the other apostles stated that they will obey God rather than men--the God who raised Jesus from the dead. The priests wanted to put them to death, but an honored Pharisee told them to leave the apostles alone, for they will only find themselves fighting against God. This persuaded the priests, and the apostles were flogged and ordered not to speak in the name of Jesus.
The apostles left, "rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the name. Day after day, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ."

ACT OF LOVE: Today, my act of love was being loving to my parents. Specifically, I spent my afternoon after the SAT II's shopping, eating dinner, and taking a walk with my mom. I could tell that she really wanted to take a walk with me, so we walked to the park and circled around for a bit. She started talking about my future husband (haha) and some qualities that I should value.
Then, I started thinking of my dad (he's been in China for the past few months). Admittedly, we do not have the best father-daughter relationship because of something that happened a few years ago that really broke the relationship I had with him. To be perfectly honest, I didn't have much respect or trust for him for a long time, and it's something that I still struggle with sometimes today. It's easy to criticize him for some of the things that he did, but I've been trying to truly and completely forgive him and see him as a man of respect and honor.
So, I asked my mom something I've never asked before: What qualities in dad would you want my future husband to have? She immediately began to tell me of some of his truly respectable characteristics, things about him that I wouldn't have known. I'm really thankful that me and my mom talked, because I realized different sides of my dad that I don't normally see. I definitely felt that God was working in my heart to forgive as He forgives me each day, and I'm looking forward to the next time my dad comes home from China so that I can love him!
Even though my dad can't directly feel this act of love today, the change in heart and effort I put forth to loving him in my heart will help me be a better daughter when I do see him!

Acts 4, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #42: MEETING PEOPLE

PASSAGE: Peter and John Before the Sanhedrin, The Believers' Prayer, The Believers Share Their Posessions

MEMORY VERSE: "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?" Psalm 42:1-2

NOTES: (v.1-22) Early persecution: the priests and Sadducees and seized Peter and John and jailed them. However, many who had heard the message believed, and the number grew to about 5 thousand!! The next day, the rulers questioned them and asked "By what power or what name did you do this?" The Holy Spirit filled Peter, and he began to preach about the man who was healed by the power of Jesus Christ, whom they crucified  but was raised from the dead by God. The rulers saw the courage of Peter and John, and that they were ordinary men, and knew that they could not deny the miracle that was performed. However, to prevent this from spreading, they ordered Peter and John to not speak in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John refused to obey.
-(v.23-31) After Peter and John were released, they returned to their people and reported what had happened. At this, they raised their voices in praise to God; "Sovereign Lord, you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them." They prayed for strength and the power of the Holy Spirit. Afterwards, the place was SHAKEN and the Holy Spirit filled them and they spoke the word of God boldly
-(v.32-37) "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but shared everything they had."

ACT OF LOVE: Today was the YSC precamp rally, so there were alot of people I hadn't seen before. My act of love was trying to get to know as many new people as possible, and there were quite a few! I met Chanel and Lisa, who are freshmen at South. I met Cathy, who is a freshman at Torrance High (who also met Vicky! How cool!) I met Roger, a 6th grader at Richardson, and Lia (sp?), a sixth grader. I hope all these people make it to YSC! I'm PUMPED for summer!

Acts 3, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #41: MISC

PASSAGE: Peter Heals the Crippled Beggar, Peter Speaks to the Onlookers

MEMORY VERSE: "Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need" -Acts 2:45

NOTES: (v.1-10) Peter and John were walking to the temple when they met a man who was crippled from birth. The man asked them for money, but Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." He JUMPED TO HIS FEET and began to walk!! "When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him."
-(v.11-26) The people were astonished at what Peter did, and Peter preached to the crowd. He told them about how Jesus was killed by them, thus disowning the Holy and Righteous one. But "by faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see." Peter preached repentance, so that their sins may be wiped away.
Peter gave glory to GOD immediately after performing an amazing miracle. No matter what crazy things he did, he always remembered that it is God who empowers him to do these things for His glory!!

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I...
-offered to check/sort the mail, which is something I usually don't do.
-continued "liking" people on facebook! I was very encouraged by people who also "liked" me back!

Acts 2, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #40: "LIKING"

PASSAGE: The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost, Peter Addresses the Crowd, The Fellowship of the Believers

MEMORY VERSE: "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near" Isaiah 55:6

NOTES: (v.1-13) When the Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and they saw tongues of fire that separated. They began to speak in tongues, and each one heard the sound in their own language. Others, however, made fun of them and said that they had too much wine.
-(v.14-41) Peter stood with the disciples and addressed the crowd--telling them that these men are not drunk, but are fulfilling the words of Joel. Peter preached that God sent Jesus to die and be raised and freed from the agony of death. "God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear." At this, the people were cut to the heart and asked what they should do. Peter told them to repent and be baptized--"about three thousand were added to their number that day." WOAH
-(v.42-47) TRUE FELLOWSHIP: "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. ..Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had needed. And the Lord added to their number daily to those who were being saved."
Man, I got chills reading this. I can't even imagine what kind of fellowship that would be like! A while ago, I read a book, The Irresistible Revolution, by Shaine Claiborne, that tells the testimony of his travels in both America and India (with his internship with Mother Teresa). In one chapter, he references this passage when he is describing the fellowship that he had with the homeless people of Pennsylvania, how they were very much reminiscent of the believers back in Jesus' time. HOW COOL is that! I pray that we will continue to grow in true fellowship of the Spirit! Fill us up!

ACT OF LOVE: As y'all may know, a "liking" fad has recently spread throughout the facebook community. The status goes: "If you like this status I will post on your wall something I like about you. Make this as your status if you're up for a challenge." Well, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and post this as my status--thus using this as my act of love! Even though it seemed like everyone was doing it, I know that I was encouraged by each post that I received. So my act of love was spending maybe an hour genuinely trying to encourage others through facebook. It was quite nice! I like this trend!

Acts 1, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #39: TRASH

PASSAGE: Jesus Taken Up Into Heaven, Matthias Chosen To Replace Judas

MEMORY VERSE: "If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels" -Mark 8:38

NOTES: (v.1-11) When the disciples asked what Jesus was going to do, he replied, "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
-(v.12-26) Judas had bought a field with the money he received for his wickedness, and there he fell and his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out (O_O). Thus, Psalm 109:8 was fulfilled.
Because of this, they had to choose another man to replace Judas: two men were proposed: Joseph and Matthias. They prayed, for God knows everyone's heart, and cast lots. The lot fell to Matthias, so he was added to the apostles.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, I:
-Offered to throw away my friend's trash
-Offered to take out the trash at home
-Offered to clean up Bambi's poop and throw it in the trash.
Yeah, that's right. I'm trashy.

Just playin. I partly did this because trash-oriented chores are my LEAST favorite chore to do (probably my slightly-germophobic side coming out), so offering to do the last two were significant for me. One thing I HATE is cleaning up the dog's poo--for a small dog, he certainly has a lot coming out of him. AND, he scatters it across the yard so that I must SEARCH for it. So recently, I've been trying to challenge myself by doing things that I hate doing, because chances are, other people hate doing it as well.

John 21, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #38: BAMBI & SOME MORE ART

PASSAGE: Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish, Jesus Reinstates Peter

MEMORY VERSE: "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid" Proverbs 12:1

NOTES: (v.1-14) Jesus met Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, and other disciples in the morning when they went fishing, but they did not recognize him. Seeing that they haven't caught any fish, he told them to throw the net onto the right side of the boat, and when they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then a disciple recognized Jesus, and Simon Peter put on his garment and jumped into the water. When they reached shore, Jesus ate with them. This was the third time that Jesus appeared tot hem after he was raised from the dead.
-(v.14-25) Jesus asked Simon Peter three times if he loved Him, and each time Jesus told him to feed his lambs. Jesus indicated the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God, and told Peter to follow him.

ACT OF LOVE: Today, my mom had sort of a hang-out day with a few ladies from the church, where they visited some pretty parts of PV and had lunch in Monterey Park. Since it's sort of a holiday for my mom, I took care of Bambi during the day. Also, I had a cup of coffee with her at Starbucks, which turned into some good mother-daughter bonding time. I think my mom's been feeling a bit nostalgic lately because she thinks I'm going to college very soon and leaving her! haha.
I also finished a drawing, and started on another! Yay!
LOOK I found a heart-shaped chip! LOL
