PASSAGE: Taming the Tongue, Two Kinds of Wisdom
MEMORY VERSE: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
NOTES: (v.1) "Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly."
(v.5) "Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue...corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."
(v.9) "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. Brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."
(v.16) "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness."
ACT OF LOVE: I am a failure. After having not eaten for the entire day, I finally broke down tonight and ate a cup of yogurt. Actually, I ate two cups cause I was so hungry. And it wasn't even the organic, non-fatty kind..it was Yoplait. BUT if it makes it any better, I did save the lids for KOMEN FOR CURE. Also, I saw that there were some lids in the trash can that my dad threw away, so I dug through the trash just to save a few lids to send in. Small, but in love nonetheless!

PASSAGE: Favoritism Forbidden, Faith and Deeds
MEMORY VERSE: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
NOTES: (v.5) "Listen, my dear brothers. Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?"
(v.13) "Mercy triumphs over judgment!"
(v.14) "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?"
(v.18) "But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what i do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I was walking into the gated community that I live in and saw that someone was approaching the gate, going out. I waited for her to come and held the door open to her! She smiled and thanked me enthusiastically :)
ALSO, for the Daniel Fast my friend Patricia graciously brought me a delicious bowl of whole-grain pasta and tomato sauce :) and a plum. IT WAS DEEELICIOUS!!
Also, for dinner I had baked yams.

James 1, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #188, DANIEL FAST (5)
PASSAGE: Trials and Temptations, Listening and Doing
MEMORY VERSE: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
NOTES: (v.2) "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, becuase you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking in anything."
(v.5) "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."
(v.13) "When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."
(v.19-27) I pretty much like the entire passage on listening and doing, especially the part about being "quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."
ACT OF LOVE: Today is day 5 of the daniel fast! I woke up too late to get breakfast, but for lunch I got a delicious salad from the cafeteria that resembled the one I had for Chipotle a few days ago! They were serving tortillas, but I just got everything except the meat and tortilla and made it a salad (complete with GUACAMOLE, salsa, jalepenos, and beans! I WAS SO HAPPY).
Also, today I had rehearsals until about dinnertime, and a large pile of homework on top of that. I resolved not to complain about anything the entire day, and to try to maintain a good attitude through everything! Eventually, I finished my homework at a decent time and had a chance to work more on college apps! YAY for productivity!

PASSAGE: Concluding Exhortations
MEMORY VERSE: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
NOTES: (v.1) "Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some people have entertained angels without knowing it."
(v.4) "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
(v.8) "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
(v.9) "Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them."
(v.13) "Let us then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come."
(v.17) "Obey your leaders and submit to their authority...Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I gave my friend most of my dried apricots because she liked eating them! Also, I helped my friends with the English homework when they needed it.
ALSO...for day 4 of the daniel fast, I bought some delicious salad from my school cafeteria! It was Chinese chicken, so I had to take out the chicken & the cheese =( But it was still deeelicious!
For dinner, I had leftover vegetables from yesterday and a bowl of rice.

Hebrews 12, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #186: PRINTING PAPER, DANIEL FAST (3)
PASSAGE: Go Disciplines His Sons, Warning Against Refusing God
MEMORY VERSE: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
NOTES: (v.1) "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."
(v.2) "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
(v.7) "Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons."
(v.12) "Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees."
(v.14) "Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many."
(v.28) "therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire"
ACT OF LOVE: Today is day three of my daniel fast. I ate mixed nuts throughout the day at school, and then for dinner I had some vegetables and rice. YUM.
For my act of love, I printed out a chart that we needed to have for tomorrow for my friend cause he printer wasn't working!

Hebrews 11, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #185: DANIEL FAST (2) & KITCHEN CLEANING
PASSAGE: By Faith
MEMORY VERSE: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
NOTES: (v.1) "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for."
(v.3) "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible."
(v.6) "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earneslty seek him."
(v.11) "By faith Abraham, even though he was past age--and Sarah herself was barren--was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise."
(v.13-16) "All these people were still living by faith when they died...and they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth...Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them."
(v.24) "By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward."
(v.39) "these were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I cleaned up the kitchen area when I was at home because it got reallyy messy ever since my mom left for China. I never really appreciate how much she does for my family until she's not here!
ALSO, it is day 2 of the Daniel Fast! I accidentally ate some dumplings that had a bit of pork in it =(((( But other than that, I basically had trailmix all day. Good stuff.

Hebrews 10, 365 DAYS OF LOVE 6 MONTH MARK: THE DANIEL FAST (1)
PASSAGE: Christ's Sacrifice for All, A Call to Persevere
MEMORY VERSE: "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasures for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life." 1 Timothy 6:18-19
NOTES: (v.1) "The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming--not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship."
(v.3) "But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins."
(v.11) "Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God."
(v.22) "Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another one toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
(v.26) "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God."
(v.34) "You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions."
ACT OF LOVE: WOW, today marks the 6 month mark of my 365 days of love! It's crazy seeing how it's been exactly 6 months since I started this thing. It's been quite a journey! Pray for 6 more months of LOVING...and more!
Anyways, today was also the start of a 21-day Daniel Fast, where I limit myself to eating just vegetables, fruits, water and one bowl of rice per day. No meats, no sweets, no baked goods/breads, and no junk food for 21 days! The purpose of this fast is to pray for revival on our campuses. As it is with most fasts, it's also an opportunity to do some cleansing--both physically and spiritually. Today, I had a Chipotle veggie bowl for lunch, (apples for breakfast), and some spinach for dinner. I also bought a whole bunch of dried fruit, nuts, and trailmix! It's going to be an interesting 3 weeks..

Hebrews 9, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #183: GETTING RID OF TRASH AND ANGER
PASSAGE: Worship in the Earthly Tabernacle, The Blood of Christ
MEMORY VERSE: "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life." 1 Timothy 6:18-19
NOTES: (v.9) "This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings--external regulations applying until the time of the new order."
(v.13) "The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!"
(v.15) "For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant."
(v.27) "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people;and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I threw away my friend's trash. Also, I held my anger when I was getting frustrated with my dad and tried to forgive him as quickly as possible.
MEMORY VERSE: "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life." 1 Timothy 6:18-19

Hebrews 8, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #182
PASSAGE: The High Priest of a New Covenant
MEMORY VERSE: "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life." 1 Timothy 6:18-19
NOTES: (v.1) "The point of what we were saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man."
(v.8) "But God found fault with the people and said: "The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.""
(v.10) "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their Go, and they will be my people."
(v.12) "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
(v.13) "by calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I gave my groupmates post-it notes for their English assignment because they didn't have any.
Also, I spend some time during Barnabas and my QT praying specifically for someone at my school who attempted suicide today. He is a junior, and it is his second or third time attempting suicide; last year, he tried to jump off the top of building 3 (which is 3 stories), until a football player saw him and pulled him back. I don't know who this person is, what his name is, or what he looks like, but I pray that he will find redemption in God's salvation. It's crazy to think that someone would have such a distorted view on life as to want to end it--as if suicide is the best possible option he could see. I can hardly fathom what that would feel like, and I pray that he'll break free from the lies that Satan is feeding him.
MEMORY VERSE: "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life." 1 Timothy 6:18-19

Hebrews 7, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #181: GIVE PASTRY
PASSAGE: Melchizedek the Priest, Jesus Like Melchizedek
MEMORY VERSE: "For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14
NOTES: (v.2) "First, his name means 'king of righteousness'; then also, 'king of salem' means 'king of peace.'"
(v.15) "And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of and indestructible life."
(v.20) "...but he became a priest when God said to him: "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: you are a priest forever.'" Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant."
(v.25) "Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them."
(v.26) "Such a high priest meets our need--one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I gave my friend my breakfast (this pastry thing from Albertsons) because he was hungrier than I was!
Also, spent some time talking to my mom since she's leaving for China tomorrow. We both have been so busy (her with moving and house remodeling, me with college apps and school) that we haven't really had a chance to talk. It was nice just have a talk with her without any agendas or stress. Gave her a big hug after!

Hebrews 6, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #180: MAIL
PASSAGE: The Certainty of God's Promise
MEMORY VERSE: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14
NOTES: (v.1) "Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment."
(v.7) "Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned."
(v.10) "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them."
(v.12) "We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised."
(v.18) "God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, my mom was going to check the mail but I offered to do it for her!
Also, I some time to write a letter to my friend! One thing I love to do is encourage people through letters and cards. In addition, I put a little "love note" under the stamp for the mailman to read :) (inspired by Jess Chen!)

Hebrews 5, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #179: HELP MOM WITH GROCERIES
PASSAGE: Jesus the Great High Priest, Warning Against Falling Away
MEMORY VERSE: "For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14
NOTES: (4:15) "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
(v.2) "[High priest] is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness."
(v.4) "No one takes his honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was."
(v.7) "During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission."
(v.8) "Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek."
(v.13) "Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, my mom came home with a whole bunch of groceries and things to bring to China (she's leaving on Friday!). I offered to help her take some stuff up and pack for her trip to CHINA. Please pray for her & my extended family when you can!

Hebrews 4, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #178: MOVE, PRAY, SAVE
PASSAGE: A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God
MEMORY VERSE: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14
NOTES: (v.2) "For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith."
(v.9) "There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his."
(v.12) "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I..
-MOVED: Helped my mom move some of our stuff over to the new house before art class.
-SAVED (PAPER): Tried to be as eco-friendly as possible by printing my board meeting agendas on scratch paper, and reducing the size to 4 per page! YEAUH!
-PRAYED: My great aunt yesterday was rushed to the hospital, and now she's lost all consciousness. (She's in China by the way). She and my great uncle have been wanting to get baptized for quite some time, but faced many obstacles that prevented them to do so. It's evident that both my great aunt and uncle have very little time left, and very little opportunity to become baptized. My mom is going to China right away to see them, and hopefully they'll both be able to live until she gets there. Pray that my great aunt, my great uncle, as well as the rest of my extended family will become baptized and followers of Jesus.

PASSAGE: Jesus Greater Than Moses, Warning Against Unbelief
MEMORY VERSE: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14
NOTES: (v.1) "Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heaving calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess."
(v.2) "He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor that the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything."
(v.12) "See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness."
(v.14) "We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I expressed my appreciation for one of my friends via facebook message. She is one of my closest friends, and so I wanted to randomly encourage her by showing her my appreciation for being my friend! YAY

Hebrews 2, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #176: DOING A FAVOR
PASSAGE: Warning to Pay Attention, Jesus Made Like His Brothers
MEMORY VERSE: "For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well" Psalm 139:13-14
NOTES: (v.1) "We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away....This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will."
(v.8) "In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him....But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angles, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."
(v.14) "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is the devil--and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death."
(v.16) "For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, my friend wanted me to do her a small favor over facebook. She entered a contest and needed help, so I asked a few of my friends to help her as well!

Psalm 23, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #175: PRAY & FELLOWSHIP
PASSAGE: Psalm 23
MEMORY VERSE: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" Pslam 139:13-14
NOTES: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." <3
ACT OF LOVE: Spent some time before and after church tonight catching up and praying with my friend Amy. I think she showed me more love than I showed her, because I really think God showed me some things that I didn't even know I was struggling with. One thing that I often lack is self-confidence, which results in me being overly-critical of myself. I don't think I know in my "gut" that I am truly God's Beloved, because at times I can feel really incompetent, unattractive, and sinful. Tonight God began to show me that He LOVES me before I even did anything, and that He'll continue to love me for all eternity. I never even acknowledged that I struggled with my self-image, but I realized that alot of my self-consciousness is a result of me not loving myself enough. And I can only learn to love others when I understand how He loves ME, no matter what. It's such a simple thing, but it's not as simple to know it deep in your stomach. Pray that I'll know that I am LOVED by God, and that He made me just the way He wanted me to be! And know that YOU are BEAUTIFUL!

Hebrews 1, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #174: KOMEN FOR CURE
PASSAGE: The Son Superior to Angels
MEMORY VERSE: "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction" 2 Timothy 4:2
NOTES: (v.3) "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs."
(v.8) "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness"
(v.10" "In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment....But you remain the same, and your years will never end."
ACT OF LOVE: My mom had just bought a bunch of Yoplait yogurt cups, and while I was eating I decided to read the lid. It said:
"Help us raise up to $1.6 million to fight breast cancer.
Yoplait will donate 10cents per lid up to $1.6 million to Susan G. Komer for the Cure for each Pink lid received by 12/31/10.

PASSAGE: Thanksgiving and Prayer, Paul's Plea for Onesimus
MEMORY VERSE: "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction" 2 Timothy 4:2
NOTES: (v.6) "I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints."
(v.8) "Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do, yet I appeal to you on the basis of love. I then, as Paul--an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus--I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. Formerly he was uesless to you, but now he has become useful to you and to me."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I helped my friend run his lines during lunch so that he could get them all memorized. Also, I left a random encouragement on my friend's facebook wall!

PASSAGE: Doing What is Good, Final Remarks
MEMORY VERSE: "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction." 2 Timothy 4:2
NOTES: (v.1) "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility to all men."
(v.3) "At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy."
This was a very humbling passage with a simple message. One of my biggest struggles with sin is pride, because too often I have a tendency to judge people and take pride in my own "spirituality." (if that even makes sense). However, Paul clearly states that before GOD showed His MERCY to me, I too was enslaved by sin. It goes back to the fundamental concept of salvation through GRACE and not WORKS. Whatever I do is for the glory of God, and not as a means to "earn" my salvation.
(v.9) "But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless."
ACT OF LOVE: A while ago we had a Barnabas Event where people within the fellowship would trade post-it notes with prayer requests on them. For my act of love today, I decided to send the person I got an encouragement through facebook message, in which I also asked him for any new prayer requests and included the verse 1 Timothy 4:12

Titus 2, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #171: CARRYING BOOKS
PASSAGE: What Must Be Taught to Various Groups
MEMORY VERSE: "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction" 2 Timothy 4:2
NOTES: (v.2) "Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance."
(v.3) "Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at hoe, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."
(v.6) "Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us."
(v.11) "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all me. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age"
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I helped my friend carry the uber dense Norton Anthology to class because her arms were full of books, while mine were empty!

Titus 1, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #170:
PASSAGE: Titus's Task on Crete
MEMORY VERSE: "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction" 2 Timothy 4:2
NOTES: (v.6) "An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, sot hat he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it." (<< Reminds me of 1 Timothy 3)
(v.15) "To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. "
(v.16) "They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I gave my friend a ride to the servant team meeting this morning. Also, we decided to sit in the front row during service because Pastor Dan had been talking about sitting closer to the front. We decided to sit in the very front without being prompted!

2 Timothy 4, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #169: LOVE IN WRITING
PASSAGE: Personal Remarks, Final Greetings
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in faith, and in purity" 1 Timothy 4:12
NOTES: (v.2) "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction."
(v.3) "For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."
(v.4) "They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry."
(v.7) "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
(v.17) "But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it...The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever."
ACT OF LOVE: Today's love was filled with cards, stamps, markers, and envelopes. I made a card for one of the lunch ladies at West that I will give her next week. Also, wrote some letters to a few of my friends who are in college! AND...my friend Jess began writing little notes and encouragements to the mailman on the envelope, and I thought that was just a superb idea. Wrote "Jesus cares, & so do I! Have a blessed day (:" under the stamp of the envelope.

2 Timothy 3, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #168: VARIOUS
PASSAGE: Godlessness in the Last Days, Paul's Charge to Timothy
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you becuase you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith and in purity" 1 Timothy 4:12
NOTES: (v.1) "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lvoers of pleasure rather than lovers of God--having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them."
(v.12) "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, becuase you know those from whom you learned it"
(v.16) "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, instead of letting another board member do it, I woke up early to go to school earlier so that I could make a poster for our CSF booth. Also, I substituted for my friend at fellowship as MC, because she couldn't make it tonight.
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you becuase you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith and in purity" 1 Timothy 4:12

2 Timothy 2, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #167: BE NICE
PASSAGE: A Workman Approved by God
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith, and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
NOTES: (v.3) "Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to pleace his commanding officer. Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules."
(v.14) "Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen...Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly."
(v.22) "Flee the evil desires of the youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, while getting lunch, the people around me and in front of me were extremely mean to the lunch lady, and called her some pretty bad names. I felt super sorry for her, especially since she's a petite Asian granny with poor English. I tried to treat her with respect and a good attitude, and made sure to thank her. In addition, I maintained a happy and respectful attitude towards my counselors and the people working at the Records Office at El Camino, because it seems like they can really get a lot of crap from students who are just plain mean.

2 Timothy 1, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #166: RECONCILE
PASSAGE: Encouragement to Be Faithful
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in faith, and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
NOTES: (v.6) "For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline."
(v.8) "So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in the suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
(v.14) "Guard the deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy SPirit who lives in us."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, my mom and I got into a pretty big fight over something relatively trivial. Usually I have a pretty good relationship with my mom, but today we both lost our tempers, and the argument ended up much worse than the initial problem. Though I was initially pretty frustrated, I waited until I cooled down a bit and talked to her at night. We both apologized and shared about our perspectives, which helped us understand each other better. I'm thankful for my mommy<3

1 Timothy 6, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #165: PRAY
PASSAGE: Love of Money, Paul's Charge to Timothy
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith, and in purity" 1 Timothy 4:12
NOTES: (v.6) "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. "
(v.11) "But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses."
(v.17) "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment."
(v.18) "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasures for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life."
(v.20) "Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in doing so have wandered from the faith."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I spent some time especially prayer for some people I don't normally pray for. On Friday, there was a Barnabas activity where people would trade prayer requests on a post-it note with someone completely random, and stick the post-it note on the Bible to remind them to pray for that person throughout the week. Since one person had left early, I took two post-it notes. Though I've been briefly praying for them throughout the week, I wanted to specifically pray for those two people in the fellowship.

1 Timothy 5, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #164: CARRY BOOKS
PASSAGE: Advice About Widows, Elders and Slaves
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith, and in purity" 1Timothy 4:12
NOTES: (v.1) "Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity."
(v.17) "The elders who direct the affairs of the church are well worthy of double honors, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching."
(v.21) "I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism."
(v.22) "Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure."
(v.24) "The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are cannot be hidden."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, my two friends were carrying a tent-thing to their next class, and it was pretty heaving. I offered to help out by carrying their books all the way into their classroom, even though it made me tardy to my own class.
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith, and in purity" 1Timothy 4:12

1 Timothy 4, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #163: MISC
PASSAGE: Instructions to Timothy
MEMORY VERSE: "
NOTES: (v.1) "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons... They forbid people people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer."
(v.9) "This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savoir of all men, and especially of those who believe."
(v.12) "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech , in life, in love, in faith and in purity."
(v.13) "Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given to you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you."
(v.15) "Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I gave my friend a hair tie to use during church!
Also, I went and introduced myself with my friend to two girls who were in the Cantonese fellowship. Turns out they've been here for a year, and they came from HK. They can speak Canto, Mandarin, AND English fluently! Wow.
MEMORY VERSE: "
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech , in life, in love, in faith and in purity."

1 Timothy 3, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #162: BABYSIT
PASSAGE: Overseers and Deacons
MEMORY VERSE: "Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song" Psalm 95:2
NOTES: Instructions for an overseer, but I think is also a good guideline for a future husband :)
(v.1) "Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover a money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?)...Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience."
Now for wives: (v.11) "In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, my parents came home after dinner with some guests, so I helped babysit their 3rd grade boy. We watched TV, talked, and ate some delicious blueberry yogurt! <3

1 Timothy 2, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #161: BOOK WRAPPING
PASSAGE: Instructions on Worship
MEMORY VERSE: Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song" Psalm 95:2
NOTES:(v.1) "I urge, then, first of all that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."
(v.8) "I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing."
(v.9) "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pears or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God."
(v.11) "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I helped my friend cover his textbook with some paper during third period!

1 Timothy 1, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #160: SMILE & DON'T COMPLAIN
PASSAGE: Warning Against False Teachers of the Law, The Lord's Grace to Paul
MEMORY VERSE: "Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song" Psalm 95:2
NOTES: (v.5) "The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know whta they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm."
(v.14) "The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason, I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life."
ACT OF LOVE: Made a special effort to smile at the Librarian as I was going in/out of the library today.
Also, today was the first day that I had rehearsals for my part. If you read my earlier posts, you'll know that I made a commitment to not complain & maintain a positive attitude about the play, even though my role isn't what I hoped for. I got to put it into practice as I tried my best to not say anything negative about rehearsals, and to look at the benefits of my role.
