PASSAGE: Peace and Joy, Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ
MEMORY VERSE: "Then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you" Job 22:25
NOTES: (v.1-11) memory verse review!: "Not only so, but we rejoice in our suffering because suffering produces perseverance, perseverance character, and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrated his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (v.3-8)
Since we've been reconciled through his death, how much more shall we be saved through his life!
-(v.12-21) "For if the many died by the trespass of the one man (Adam), how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to many!"
"Again, the gift of God is not like the result of one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification" (16)
"The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more"(20)
ACT OF LOVE: I felt compelled to do a small bible study with my friends, Crystal and Jackie over a 3-way phone call. I called them up and we agreed to read Romans 5 together and get back after maybe 20 minutes of reading. After we each read, we shared about what we learned from the chapter. Jackie had to leave early because of her parents, but me and Crystal had a nice, long discussion about the chapter, which lead to many different things (like friday's lesson, John Piper's Desiring God, and the fundamentals of being a Christian). We closed the time in sharing prayer requests. I think tonight was a good encouragement for all of us, and I'm thankful for the dynamic discussions we shared! :)
