Memory Verse: "14Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16With long life I satisfy him and show him my salvation" -Psalm 91: 14-16
Notes: (v.2-3) Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights before he was tempted
-1st Temptation: food--the devil tempted him with physical food
Jesus answered:(v.4) "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God" (ref. Deuteronomy 8:3)
-2nd Temptation: the devil used Scripture (ref. Psalm 91:11-12) test him; he wanted Jesus to call upon the angels to save him
Jesus answered: (v.7) do not put God to test
-3rd Temptation: (v.9) the devil offers worldly treasures in return for worship of the devil
Jesus said: (v.10) worship God alone
-Jesus fulfilled prophet Isaiah's words in his moving to Zebulun and Naphtali (ref. Isaiah 9:1-2)
He then began to preacH (v.17); "repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near"
-(v.19)Jesus called Simon and Peter, brothers, to be "fishers of men"
-(v.21-22)He then saw James and John, also brothers, to be disciples
-Jesus walked through Galilee preaching and healing the sick.
