Mark 16

Passage: The Resurrection

Memory Verse: "But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: 6Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did."-1 John 2:5-6

Notes: (v.1-8) When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went to the tomb with spices to anoint Jesus' body. When they were on their way, they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?" However, when the got there they saw that the stone had been rolled away, and in the tomb was a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The man told them not to be alarmed, for Jesus, who was crucified, has risen and is not here. He told them to go and tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. Then you will see him, just as he told you.' The women were bewildered, but said nothing to anyone because they were afraid.
-(v.9-20) [earliest manuscripts do not have Mark 16:9-20]Jesus appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told those who were mourning, but they did not believe her. Afterwards, he appeared to two of them in a different form, and they told the others but the rest did not believe them. Later, Jesus appeared to the Eleven and rebuked them for their lack of faith. Then he told them to go to all the world and preach the good news to all creation. In his name they will drive out demons, they will speak in new tongues, they will pick up snakes with their hands and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.
After, Jesus was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. The disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them.
