PASSAGE: Love of Money, Paul's Charge to Timothy
MEMORY VERSE: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith, and in purity" 1 Timothy 4:12
NOTES: (v.6) "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. "
(v.11) "But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses."
(v.17) "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment."
(v.18) "Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasures for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life."
(v.20) "Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in doing so have wandered from the faith."
ACT OF LOVE: Today, I spent some time especially prayer for some people I don't normally pray for. On Friday, there was a Barnabas activity where people would trade prayer requests on a post-it note with someone completely random, and stick the post-it note on the Bible to remind them to pray for that person throughout the week. Since one person had left early, I took two post-it notes. Though I've been briefly praying for them throughout the week, I wanted to specifically pray for those two people in the fellowship.
