PASSAGE: Taming the Tongue, Two Kinds of Wisdom
MEMORY VERSE: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
NOTES: (v.1) "Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly."
(v.5) "Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue...corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."
(v.9) "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. Brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."
(v.16) "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness."
ACT OF LOVE: I am a failure. After having not eaten for the entire day, I finally broke down tonight and ate a cup of yogurt. Actually, I ate two cups cause I was so hungry. And it wasn't even the organic, non-fatty kind..it was Yoplait. BUT if it makes it any better, I did save the lids for KOMEN FOR CURE. Also, I saw that there were some lids in the trash can that my dad threw away, so I dug through the trash just to save a few lids to send in. Small, but in love nonetheless!
