3 Week Challenge, Day 15

Passage: Matthew 15 (Clean and Unclean, The Faith of the Canaanite Woman, Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand)

Memory Verse: "14They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because He is Lord of lords and King of kings--and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers" -Revelation 17:14

Notes: (v.1-2) The Pharisees condemned the disciples for not washing their hands before they ate
-(v.3-9) Jesus responded by calling the Pharisees on their hypocrisy: they nullified the word of God with their tradition. He mentions prophet Isaiah (ref. Isaiah 29:13); they worshipped God in vain as their hearts were far from Him
-(v.10) Jesus says, "what goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean'"
(v.17-19) Whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body, but out of the heart come evil thoughts
Such things that make a man unclean are: evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander
-(v.21-25) A Canaanite woman came to Jesus, begging him to heal her demon-possessed daughter
-(v.26) Jesus says, "it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs"
Why does Jesus say this?
-(v.27) the woman replied that even dogs eat crumbs that fall from their master's table
-(v.28) Jesus heals her daughter because of her faith
-(v.29-37) Jesus had compassion on the people whom he performed miracles for (along the Sea of Galilee), and wanted to feed them
(v.34-39) Jesus took 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish and fed 4,000, besides women and children. All were satisfied, and there were seven basketfuls leftover
