Memory Verse: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. " -Hebrews 12:1
Notes: (v.1-3) Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was written in Isaiah (ref. Isaiah 40:3)
-(v.4-8) John the baptist came to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins. His message was, "After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit"
-(v.9-13) Jesus, coming from Nazareth in Galilee, was baptized by John in the Jordan river. When he was coming out of the water, a voice from heaven came and said, "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased" Immediately after he was sent to the desert for forty days, being tempted by Satan. (temptation of Jesus: Matthew 4)
-(v.14-20) After John was imprisoned, Jesus went to Galilee to proclaim the good news. He called his disciples to be "fishers of men"
-(v.21-28) Jesus went to the synagogue in Capernaum and began to preach when a possessed man cried out. Jesus drove the evil spirit out and it came out with a shriek. The people were amazed
-(v.29-34) Jesus healed many of their sick and demon-possessed
-(v.35-39) Jesus got up very early in the morning to a solitary place to pray
-(v.40-45) A man with leprosy came to Jesus and asked him to make him clean. Jesus was filled with compassion and healed the man immediately. He told the man to not tell anyone, but to show himself to the priest as a testimony. Instead, the man began to spread the news.
