Notes: (v.1-6) On a Sabbath, Jesus went out to the synagogue and saw a man with a shriveled hand. The Pharisees went ready see if Jesus would heal on the Sabbath, and accuse him. Jesus responded, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" Because they remained silent, Jesus was distressed by their stubborn hearts and healed the man.
-(v.7-12) Many crowds followed Jesus, coming from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and regions across the Jordan. He healed many, and when the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried, "You are the Son of God"
-(v.13-19) Jesus appointed twelve apostles that might be sent out to preach and be with Jesus and have the authority to drive out demons. They twelve were: Simon (later changed to Peter), James son of Zebedee, his brother John, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
-(v.20-29) Jesus entered a house and the crowd was so large that he and his disciples could not eat. When the teachers of the law came, they claimed that he was possessed by Beelzebub, the prince of demons.
Jesus responded: "How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand."
-(v.30-35) When his mother and brothers arrived, Jesus was notified that his mother and brothers were looking for him. He asked, "Who are my mother and my brothers?"
He then looked at those seated around him and said, "Here are my mother and brothers! Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother"
