NOTES:
13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure
and have washed my hands in innocence.
14 All day long I have been afflicted,
and every morning brings new punishments.
and have washed my hands in innocence.
14 All day long I have been afflicted,
and every morning brings new punishments.
15 If I had spoken out like that,
I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand all this,
it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;
then I understood their final destiny.
I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand all this,
it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;
then I understood their final destiny.
18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;
you cast them down to ruin.
19 How suddenly are they destroyed,
completely swept away by terrors!
20 They are like a dream when one awakes;
when you arise, Lord,
you will despise them as fantasies.
you cast them down to ruin.
19 How suddenly are they destroyed,
completely swept away by terrors!
20 They are like a dream when one awakes;
when you arise, Lord,
you will despise them as fantasies.
21 When my heart was grieved
and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless and ignorant;
I was a brute beast before you.
This section of the passage talks about David's temptation to go with the way of the world (afore mentioned in v.2-3). When I read it, this section seemed to be divided into two parts (that I divided above): the first part describes his rejection of God's truths ("Surely in vain have I kept my heart pure; in vain have I washed my hands in innocence"). He regrets not being "successful" in the world through the prosperity of the wicked, up until 17, which serves as a turning point. Once he enters "the sanctuary of God", he sees the Truth in that in relation to eternity, they have no success or glory whatsoever. Though they are mildly prosperous in the world, God is able to smite them as fast as one wakes from a dream. From v18-22, there is a realization that he lived in ignorance when he believed in the ways of the wicked.and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless and ignorant;
I was a brute beast before you.
ACT OF LOVE: I went to a birthday party for a friend today. Even though presents weren't necessary or expected, I went with two other friends and bought a birthday gift for him anyways! We got him a poster of his favorite video game, a really funny Toy Story 3 toy, and a pack of Pokemon cards hahaha.
