Psalm 8, 365 DAYS OF LOVE #266&267

Francis Chan--The End of the World Part I
Just watched this sermon online (click "The End of the World, Part I"). I'll be honest, this was a pretty challenging and humbling sermon for me. It was a tough reality check seeing just how self-absorbed I am, even with me doing the 365-days of love challenge. Oftentimes, when I hear sermons about "the wicked" it's easy to think of OTHER people who are "wicked" and fit that criteria. I think today God really showed me how alike I am to the wicked as described in this passage. Watch with an open heart, and listen to God's Word!

MEMORY VERSE: "Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had nearly slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong." Psalm 73:1-4

NOTES: 1 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
   You have set your glory
   in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
   the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c]
5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e]
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their[g] feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
 9 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
This is the passage that we are challenged to meditate over this week. Will went over this passage on Friday with a few notes:
-This is another example of the classic "underdog" story that is very prevalent in the Bible. In v.4, David writes that even though man does not even come close to deserving God, he has "crowned him with glory and honor" and blessed man (us) with all the things of the earth.
-It's a symmetric psalm that begins and ends the same way, with the verse about man at the center
-Personally, I think maybe one reason God often ordains praise from the "lips of children and infants" and uses the seemingly "weakest person" is so that His power and glory is further emphasized. I mean, I'm sure the story of David and Goliath would be less impressive if David were this big hulking body builder type of warrior, instead of the puny man he was. But regardless, God is impressive no matter what haha. I don't know if this makes sense. It's late.

ACT OF LOVE #266: Opened a door for someone when I was in Santa Monica for my interview.

ACT OF LOVE #267: Went on World Vision's website and was browsing ways to help. I went on the world hunger site and sent an email to the legislators of California encouraging them to help fight world hunger by approving a bill addressing this issue!
