PASSAGE: The Vine and the Branches, The World Hates the Disciples
MEMORY VERSE: "He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." John 15:2
NOTES: (v.1-17) If we remain in Jesus, we will bear fruit: "He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that he does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful."
This verse really applies to much of what almost everyone has gone through: struggle. Recently, a family friend of ours was diagnosed with breast cancer when a tumor the size of a small fist was discovered. My mother shared with this friend about the past struggle our family has encountered, and reminded me of this analogy. Pruning takes work, struggle, and sometimes pain. But every time God prunes, He is doing it for our ultimate blessing and His glory. Isn't it amazing that there is reason to be thankful in the midst of struggle because of Jesus? PRAISE HIM!
"If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you." --The more we know Jesus, the more our wishes and desires align with His will.
-(v.18-27) Memory verse review: "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."
I remember hearing a speaker say that if God allowed His own Son, who was perfect and whom He loves, to face the worst punishment on earth, how much more would he allow us to be persecuted for His kingdom? But we have the hope in Jesus, who has faced all the pain that we will ever face, and more, and has overcome death's sting!!
ACT OF LOVE: Today, a couple of my friends needed a USB at school for their project. They first asked my friend, but she didn't have one. Normally, I don't make a direct effort to offer my supplies to people who don't ask, but I didn't see why I shouldn't let them borrow mine. Since I had one with me, I offered mine to use and take home for a bit. That's it! =)
