Memory Verse: "We love because he first loved us" -1 John 4:19
Notes: (v.1-19) Jesus tells the people the parable of the tenants: a man planted a vineyard and rented it to some farmers and went away. At harvest, the man sent a servant to collect some of the fruit, but the tenants beat him and sent him away. The man sent another one, but they did the same to him. Again he sent a servant, to no avail. Finally, the man decided to send his son, whom he loves. But when the tenants saw him, they killed him to gain his inheritance. "Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed."
-(v.20-26) Jesus was asked about paying taxes to Caesar by the Pharisees as a ploy to trap him. But Jesus, pointing out that it was Caesar's face on the denarius, told the people to "give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
-(v.27-40) The Sadducees came and asked Jesus about marriage at the Resurrection, but Jesus replied that people will neither marry nor be married at the Resurrection. Rather, they will be like the angels, as they are God's children.
-(v.41-47) Jesus warned against the teachers of the law because of their self-seeking hearts. They make a show of lengthy prayers and take the most important seats in the synagogues, but will ultimately be punished severely.
ACT OF LOVE: Inspired by one of Jaeson Ma's recent acts of love, I decided today that I would make random encouragement notes to stick in people's lockers. I cut up index cards and wrote an encouraging message in the front, while on the back I included a memory verse (mostly from 1 Corinthians 13). To be distributed tomorrow!
