Passage: The Parable of the Persistent Widow, The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector, The Little Children and Jesus, The Rich Ruler, Jesus Again Predicts His Death, A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight
Memory Verse: "Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ" -Ephesians 5:21
Notes: (v.1-8) In this parable, Jesus tells about a widow who pleaded for justice against her adversary to a uncaring judge. Though he refused at first, he finally gave in because of her persistence. If even the unjust judge relinquishes under persistence, how much more will God bring justice for his chosen ones. But when Jesus returns, will he find faith on earth?
-(v.9-14) To the people confident in their own righteousness, Jesus told this parable:
A Pharisee and tax collector went up to the temple to pray: the Pharisee prayed loudly, thanking God that he was not like the tax collector and glorifying himself. But the tax collector stood at a distance and begged for mercy from God. Jesus says, "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God."
-(v.15-17)"I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."
-(v.18-30) A rich ruler came to Jesus and asked what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. Having already obeyed and kept his commandments, Jesus told him to sell everything he has and to give to the poor. But because of his great wealth, the man went away, sad. "No one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life."
-(v.31-34) Jesus predicts his death again to the twelve disciples.
-(v.35-43) A blind beggar, who had heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, begged Jesus for mercy and healing. Seeing his faith, Jesus healed the man and he immediately received sight. At this, the people praised God.
ACT OF LOVE: I decided to send my out-of-state friend a random card and note of encouragement. I bust out my pretty markers and card stock, and sent her a random hello! :) I love sending/receiving mail, and we used to be pen pals but stopped after a while. Hopefully it'll make her day a bit more colorful when she receives it! [Card done with scratch art]
