Passage: Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman, The Disciples Rejoin Jesus, Many Samaritans Believe, Jesus Heals the Official's Son
Memory Verse: "If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died." -Romans 14:15
Notes: (v.1-26) Jesus asks a Samaritan woman for a drink, but the Samaritan woman was surprised because Jews did not associate with Samaritans. But Jesus told her that whoever drinks from the water that He gives will never thirst; she asked for this water and Jesus told her of at time when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. He then declared that he is the Messiah who was to come.
-(v.27-38) The woman went back to the town and told the people of Jesus, and they made their way toward him. Meanwhile, his disciples urged him to eat, but Jesus said that he has food to eat that they know nothing about.
"My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work." You reap what you sow
-(v.38-54) Many Samaritans believed in Jesus because of the woman's testimony, and invited Jesus to stay with them for two days.
Jesus' 2nd miracle!!
He left for Galilee after having stayed with the Samaritans, and he met a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum. He begged for Jesus to come and heal his son, but Jesus told him that his son will live. The man took Jesus at his word and left. On the way home, his servants met and and told him that his son was recovering--his fever left him the previous day at the seventh hour. The official realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, "your son will live." So he and all his household believed.
ACT OF LOVE: Continuing what I did last Friday, I decided to leave encouragement notes again while I was at the Albertsons Starbucks. I distributed about 15 encouraging index cards to random cars in the parking lot. It gave me quite a thrill :)
